Simply download the latest eLicenser version from the Steinberg website and install it which uninstalls the old version too. Do not forget to run a maintanence update which also updates the local database structure. If you want to use Cubase on a new computer, you will have to download and install eLicenser Control Center on your new computer, register and get your new license number, and finally, reactivate your license by entering the new activation code. Imagine doing this process every time, it. Open the Syncrosoft License Control Center (which can be found in the Start/Programs menu under Windows or in the Applications folder on a Mac). Write down the number of the eLicenser for Cubase LE displayed in the Syncrosoft License Control Center. Launch Cubase LE and select the Registration option from the Help menu. Once Cubase is done downloading in Steinberg Download Assistant Setup, click on 'Open' to launch the Cubase 10 LE installer. Double-click on the installer (box icon) to begin the Cubase LE 10 installation process. It will look different on Windows but the process is the same. Cubase will soon be using a new copy protection system that does without the dongle occupying a USB port. Cubase AI : Program Installation Does Not Create a Soft-eLicenser Number

Licenses for many Steinberg programs are stored in the so called Soft-eLicenser, a virtual license container on the hard disk. In the eLicenser Control Center - the license managing tool used by all Steinberg programs - the Soft-eLicenser is represented by a hard disk symbol. Each Soft-eLicenser has an unique number which is required for the program activation.

Problem

In rare cases, the Soft-eLicenser cannot be created during the installation. If the Soft-eLicenser is missing the activation code needed for the permanent activation of the program cannot be requested. Downloading licenses is also not possible without a Soft-eLicenser (unless an USB-eLicenser is connected).

Solution

The solution requires three steps:

1. Uninstalling the program you want to activate (for example, Cubase Elements).
2. Running the 'eLC Installation Helper'. This little tool creates the condition for a successfull reinstallation.
3. Reinstalling the program you want to activate.

Please follow these instructions:

Mac

1) Close all programs.

2) Uninstall the program you want to activate by moving it from the Applications folder to the Trash.

3) Download this file: 'elc-installation-helper.zip'

CAUTION: Only use the special installer if you cannot proceed the activation due to a missing Soft-eLicenser! The eLC Installation Helper will delete an existing Soft-eLicenser and all contained licenses without recall!

4) Unzip the downloaded file and run the contained program 'eLC Installation Helper.app' by double-clicking on it.

5) Click on 'Uninstall' and enter your password.
6) Finally, re-install the program you want to activate as usual.

Next time you start the eLicenser Control Center the newly created Soft-eLicenser will be displayed.

Windows

Cubase1) Close all programs.
2)Uninstall the program you want to activate via Windows Control Panel:
  • Windows XP: Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  • Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8: Control Panel > Programs and Features
3) Download the eLC Installation Helper:
  • Windows 7, Windows 8: Download 'elc-installation-helper.exe'
  • Windows XP, Windows Vista: Download 'elc-installation-helper-xp.exe'
Caution: Only use the eLC Installation Helepr if you cannot proceed the activation due to a missing Soft-eLicenser! The eLC Installation Helper will delete an existing Soft-eLicenser and all contained licenses without recall!

4) Double-click on the downloaded file to start the reinstallation of the eLicenser Control Center.
5) Please note that the eLC Installation Helper can only be executed if your Windows user account has administrative rights! If you are logged in to an Windows user account with limited rights you will be promted to provide an administrator's username and password.
6) Finally, re-install the program you want to activate as usual.

Next time you start the eLicenser Control Center the newly created Soft-eLicenser will be displayed.

If the eLC Installation Helper failed to create a Soft-eLicenser the 'Data Execution Prevention' of Windows might be the reason. Please check its setting according to this instruction:

1) Open the Windows Control Panel.

2) Windows XP: Click on 'System';

Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8: Click on 'System and Security', then on ' System' and finally on 'Advanced system settings' in the list of options to the left.

3) The window 'System Properties' pops up.
4) On the 'Advanced' tab click under 'Performance' on 'Settings...'.

5) The window 'Performance Options' pops up.

6) On the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab make sure the 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' is selected!

7) Close the window by clicking on 'OK' and, if prompted, restart your computer.

8) Finally, run the eLC Installation Helper once again following the instruction above.

That's how it works. A code for a code. Follow the breadcrumbs correctly and you get Cubase AI. The video BM posted for you walks you through the entire process - follow it.
At 4:52 he entered the original code. Few seconds later (5:08) he gets the 'Activation Code' - which is different. Then he downloaded cubase AI. And showed that you get an email with the 'Activation Code' from Steinberg (6:34) so you will still have a copy even if you didn't save it off from the initial display at 5:08. Then he ran the installer for cubase AI. Then agreed to terms. Then installed. Then at time 7:57 - he shows running the application 'eLicenser Control Center'. This is the 'key'. It's what you have to do next if you haven't already.
Click on the 'Enter Activation Code' button - then paste in your code from the email. Activation code. The 2nd code you got from Steinberg. Not the one from the card. Press 'Continue'. Then install license. That does it. Your computer needs to have internet access to do this since the license is grabbed from the net.
If you have problems - follow the video. Start over from the beginning of the video.
If what you're saying is that the code from the Steinberg email you received does not work in elicenser - then this is probably a support issue with Steinberg. Make sure you're using the new code and not the code from the card. The code on the card isn't an 'activation code' which is what you should be entering into the elicenser.
